    The Need

The Twin Rivers region has identified poverty, the need for affordable housing and healthcare as major community needs. Increasingly low-income families in the region have difficulty finding and affording safe housing for their families. It is known that Franklin has a higher than Statewide incident level of lead-paint risk for youngsters and that many renting families are qualified for low income rental assistance Ð and are thus in poverty.

Franklin also has a higher than Statewide rental market compared to home ownership. This combination of factors raise questions about truly understanding how economics drive housing, homelessness, health care provision and identifying effective means to address these needs.

    Actions
CCNTR will engage in a research project to identify the connections between economics, healthcare delivery and safe and affordable housing for families in the twelve communities of the Twin Rivers. A convening group will represent the areas of study. The project will incorporate other like-focused efforts in the region and be guided by a Public Health Consultant.

    Involvement
The Endowment for Health and Franklin Savings Bank's Community Grant Fund are funding the research project. Broad community involvement in the research and analysis of this important issue comes from both health and human services organizations within and outside the CCNTR network.
